Warhawks’ Record-Setting Run Ends in St. Louis

The No. 23 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team concluded its most successful postseason run in program history Sunday, falling 1-0 against No. 4 Washington-St. Louis in an NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinal match at Francis Field in St. Louis, Mo.

The Warhawks (20-5 overall) wrapped up their magical run with school records in wins and goals in one season (68). The team reached the sectional final, or national quarterfinals, for the first time in school history.

The Bears (20-2) recorded the lone goal of the contest in the 41st minute.

UW-Whitewater received the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament after winning the conference tournament, tallying consecutive shutouts wins on the road over opponents it had lost to during the regular season en route to the title.

The Warhawks, selected to host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament at Fiskum Field, downed Carroll by a 1-0 tally in overtime before punching its ticket to the sectional round, or Round of 16, with a 2-0 triumph over Wheaton (Ill.). It was the program's first-ever win against the Thunder.

Undaunted by a loss to Illinois Wesleyan in its first match of the regular season, UW-Whitewater registered a 2-1 overtime win over the No. 7 Titans to set up a showdown against the fourth-ranked Bears.

The Warhawks are slated to return all but one starter – senior midfielder Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) – in 2016. UW-Whitewater has reached the NCAA Tournament in five straight seasons.
