No. 12 Volleyball Sweeps Concordia

The No. 12 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team posted its sixth straight victory Tuesday night, defeating Concordia (Wis.) 25-12, 25-17, 25-14 in a non-conference contest at Kris Russell Volleyball Arena.

The Warhawks (16-3 overall) hit .272 and held the Falcons to .054 in the match.

Senior right side hitter Brittney Langley (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) and junior outside hitter Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) led the UW-Whitewater offense with 11 kills apiece. Sophomore middle hitter Courtney Wagner (Dekalb, Ill./Dekalb) tallied seven kills and three blocks, while junior setter Staci Hasler (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) totaled 31 assists, three service aces and 10 digs.

Freshman libero Brittany Robinson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) paced the defense with 22 digs to go along with four assists and three service aces. Junior defensive specialist Tessa Weber (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) contributed 13 digs.

The Warhawks ran off nine of the first 11 points in the first set to take control of the match quickly. The team didn't allow Concordia (11-7) any closer than six points the rest of the way in the frame.

UW-Whitewater burst out to an 8-1 lead in the second on the serve of Robinson. The Falcons narrowed their deficit to 13-12, but a 5-0 run on Hasler's serve gave control back to the Warhawks, who took the set for a 2-0 match lead.

After Concordia tallied the first two points of the third, the Warhawks emerged on a 10-0 run, including three kills from Wagner and two from Langley. From there, UW-Whitewater cruised to its third sweep in its last five matches.

The Warhawks resume Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this Friday at UW-Stout. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Menomonie, Wis.
