Warhawks Down Wheaton, Carroll in Dual Matches

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team remained undefeated for the 2014-15 season Saturday with consecutive victories over Wheaton (Ill.) and Carroll in non-conference dual matches at Wheaton.
 
The Warhawks (3-0 overall) started with a 7-2 triumph over Wheaton before concluding the day with an 7-2 win over Carroll.
 
Against the host Thunder (2-1), UW-Whitewater swept all three doubles matches to jump out to an early lead. Sophomores Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and Amy Upthagrove (Muskego/Muskego) teamed up at No. 1 for an 8-4 victory, while freshmen Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) and Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central) won by an identical margin at the second position.
 
Junior captain Ashley Miller (Racine/Union Grove) and freshman Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) scored an 8-2 triumph at the No. 3 slot.
 
The Warhawks won at the top four singles positions for the final margin. Humphreys (No. 1) and Upthagrove (No. 3) earned straight-set victories, while McGuire (No. 2) and freshman Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) (No. 4) posted wins in three sets.
 
In the match against Carroll (3-2), UW-Whitewater made adjustments to its lineup, coming out winning two of three doubles matches and the Nos. 2-6 singles contests.
 
Upthagrove and Miller registered an 8-0 triumph at No. 2 doubles. Wallace and sophomore Brooke Hendricks (Sterling, IL/Sterling) recorded an 8-2 victory at the third spot.
 
McGuire, Talyansky, Beck, sophomore Rachel Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/South) and Hendricks, in order of flight, tallied straight-set wins in singles. No player surrendered more than four games in one set.
 
Humphreys was outlasted in three sets at the top singles position.
 
The Warhawks resume Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next Saturday against UW-La Crosse. First serve is slated for 9:30 a.m. in Whitewater.
