The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team put together a complete performance in its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener Saturday night, downing UW-Stevens Point 4-0 at Fiskum Field.
Â
Four different players scored for the Warhawks (6-2 overall, 1-0 WIAC), who also posted their third consecutive shutout.
Â
Sophomore forward
Carina Krausert (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) led UW-Whitewater's balanced scoring attack with one goal and one assist.
Â
Senior goalkeeper
Jordan Myers (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) improved to 6-2 on the year with her fourth shutout. The Warhawks held the Pointers (2-5, 0-1) to just three shots, including none on goal, and limited UW-Stevens Point to just two corner kicks in the contest.
Â
"We're just being more simple and keeping the play in front of us, and then cleaning up our play out of the back a little bit," UW-Whitewater coach
Ryan Quamme said. "I'm very happy with the effort, and it certainly helps to have
Jordan Myers (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) back there, she's a great leader."
Â
Senior midfielder
Sarah Sedlar (Racine, Wis./Racine Case) tallied what held up as the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute on a pass from Krausert. It was Sedlar's first tally of the season.
Â
Freshman defender
Ruth Lenzen (Madison, Wis./Madison Memorial) then posted her first career goal in the 37th, taking a pass from freshman forward
Jordan Jackson (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich), who registered her second assist of the year.
Â
In the 55th minute, Krausert found the back of the net for the second time this season, and was assisted by sophomore forward
Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek).
Â
Sophomore forward
Carly Pottle (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) recorded her third goal of the season for the final margin in the 76th minute on a throw-in from sophomore defender
Sierra High (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central), who was credited with an assist on the play.
Â
"We worked on playing some bigger balls and playing a little bit quicker in the attacking third, and I think it helped tonight," Quamme said. "We have a very balanced team in the attack so it's nice to see a lot of people get rewarded."
Â
UW-Whitewater returns to action Wednesday at Augustana (Ill.) for a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
Â
Quamme is confident in the Warhawks' ability to keep things rolling as the first half of the season winds down.
Â
"We just want to play a little bit quicker, and be a little more crisp on our runs and our timing as we start getting used to each other," Quamme said. "Our new players this year aren't new anymore.
Â
"One thing we've done the last five years is finish strong, and I think we're on pace to do that again."
