Nicole Lorenz (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) found the back of the net on a header off of a corner kick in the 65th minute to seal a 1-0 win for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on the road over Augustana College (Ill.). Sophomore forward
Carina Krausert (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) registered the assist on the goal, her third of the season.
An even match throughout, the two teams each posted three shots on goal but the Warhawks had the upperhand on corner kicks 9-1.
The first half went by relatively uneventful with Warhawk goalkeeper
Jordan Myers (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) thwarting the lone shot on goal between the two teams in the half.
The UW-Whitewater offense put the pressure on the Viking defense in the second half.
Carly Pottle (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) had the first scoring opportunity in the 51st minute but Meredith Chew recorded the save. The Warhawks followed with two corner kicks in the next minute but were unable to put a shot on goal.
Krausert took another corner for UW-Whitewater in the 59th minute. Just over five minutes later,
Sierra High (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) took the corner and launched the ball into the box where Pottle's header was blocked.
With the clock showing 64:33, Krausert went to the corner, and sent a ball into the box, Lorenz headed it into the back of the net at the 64:37 mark for her first collegiate goal.
Both offenses kept the pressure on but the defenses held and Myers sealed the game with a save at 83:53. UW-Whitewater improves to 7-2 this season and the Vikings fall to 5-2.
The Warhawks will host UW-River Falls Saturday afternoon at 4 pm at Fiskum Field on the UW-Whitewater campus.
