Men's Tennis Wins Twice on Saturday

UW-W took a 2-1 lead after doubles and never looked back as they went on to defeat Carroll University 8-1 in their first match Saturday.  The match was played at the Premiere Tennis and Fitness Center in Janesville.  UW-W followed that up with a 9-0 sweep of Monmouth at Wangerin Courts later in the day.  The Warhawks, ranked 29th in the nation and 5th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, improve to 15-7 this season, 23-0 all-time against Carroll, and 4-0 all-time against Monmouth.  The Pioneers fall to 5-9 and the Scots drop to 8-10.

In the match against Carroll, Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper), who is ranked 3rd in the Central Region, topped 6th ranked Jack Michael at one singles 6-3, 7-4 to improve to 22-6 this season.  In the other five singles matches no Pioneer won more than two games in a single set, except once at two singles.

Ben Shklyar (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) and Martin Beck (Minneapolis/South) teamed up at one doubles to top Jack Michael and Matthew Michael 8-0 to improve to 4-1 this season.  Brian Klein (Brookfield/East) and Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) defeated Nick Schultz and Blake Youngberg 8-4 at three doubles and are 2-0 when competing together this season.

Against Monmouth the Warhawks breezed through all six singles matches in straight sets and lost a combined eight games in three doubles matches.  Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial) won 6-0, 6-0 in his six singles match to accompany his 6-0, 6-1 win earlier in the day.

The Warhawks will host Elmhurst next Saturday, April 12, for senior day beginning at 11 am at Wangerin Courts on the campus of UW-Whitewater.
