Netters Win Seventh Consecutive WIAC Team Tournament

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Warhawk women's tennis team won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team tournament to receive the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament for the seventh straight season. UW-Whitewater defeated UW-Oshkosh 6-0 in a semifinal and followed with an 8-1 win over UW-La Crosse.

Semifinal: UW-Whitewater defeated UW-Oshkosh 6-0
Championship: UW-Whitewater defeated UW-La Crosse 8-1

The Warhawks took an early lead after doubles, 2-1 heading into singles play. UW-W swept the six flights of singles to seal the win, the WIAC Team Tournament title and automatic qualifier. 

Alexandra Bayliss (Sheboygan/North) notched win numbers 20 and 21 this season at number one doubles. She is 29-4 overall in singles play this season. Megan Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) picked up two wins to improve to 33-5 and Jackie Vitale (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) added two W's to improve to 17-9 in singles competition. 

Amy Upthagrove (Muskego/Muskego) paired with Humphreys for two wins in doubles play to improve to 12-2.

The NCAA Division III Tournament is scheduled to begin with first round play May 9. Locations have yet to be announced. 

Last season the Warhawks advanced to the third round of the NCAA DIII Tournament after receiving a bye in the first round and defeating Carleton 5-3. UW-W fell to Chicago on their home courts 5-1 in the second round of play.
