Warhawks Take Two; Defeat Carthage and Luther

JANESVILLE, Wis. - The UW-Whitewater men's tennis team defeated both Carthage and Luther in a doubleheader on Friday. The Warhawks defeated Carthage, 8-1, in the first match and then won all nine matches against Luther in the nightcap.

The Red Men took first doubles, 8-6, but Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) and Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) answered by winning second doubles, 8-1. Cam Laktash (Crystal Lake, IL/South) worked with Martin Beck (Minneapolis/South) to blank their opponent, 8-0, at third doubles to give the Warhawks a 2-1 edge going into singles play.
 
Humphreys won his ninth-consecutive match by winning 6-0, 6-0 at first singles. Byron Balkin (Madison/Memorial) lost only two games at second singles, taking his match 6-1, 6-1. Brian Klein (Brookfield/East) won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at fifth singles to give UW-W a 5-1 lead and clinch the match.
 
Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) took third singles, 6-2, 6-4, and Matt Bisbee (Chicago, IL/Marist) won at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-2. Beck earned his eighth consecutive victory with a 6-3, 6-0 win at sixth singles

The Warhawks opened the match by sweeping doubles. Balkin and Klein worked together to win first doubles, 8-6, and Humphreys and Butler took second doubles, 8-4. Laktash and Beck took third doubles, 8-2.
 
Humphreys defeated his opponent in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, at first singles and Balkin battled for a win at second singles, winning in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. Raman earned a win at third singles, 7-5, 6-1 and Matt Bisbee (Chicago, IL/Marist) won fourth singles, 6-0, 6-3. Klein defeated his opponent, 6-1, 6-2, at fifth singles and Laktash won at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-0.
 
The Warhawks are now 9-5 and will host Cardinal Stritch on March 14 at 1:00 pm at Premier Tennis & Fitness in Janesville.
