Netters Kickoff 2014 Against DI Competition

JANESVILLE, Wis. - 
The Warhawks finished the weekend against NCAA Division-I teams with a 4-3 victory over the University of Detroit Mercy Sunday morning.

The Warhawks took the doubles point with three victories. Ben Shklyar (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) and Byron Balkin (Madison/Memorial) took first doubles with a 6-5 (7-4) win and Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) won second doubles with a 6-5 (7-3) decision to clinch the doubles point. Kevin Friend (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) and Cam Laktash (Crystal Lake, IL/South) took third doubles with a 6-3 margin.
 
Humphreys took first singles in straight sets, 6-5 (7-4), 6-2, and Byron Balkin (Madison/Memorial) defeated Patryk Koscielski of UDM 6-5 (7-1), 6-2 at third singles. Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) played a marathon match but came away with the match-clinching victory, winning in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
 
UW-W will return to the court when they travel to Green Bay for a tri-match against Washington University-St. Louis and UW-Green Bay Sunday, February 9.

ROCKFORD, Ill. -
The Warhawk men's tennis team opened the 2014 half of their season with a 7-0 loss to Division I Northern Illinois University and a close 4-3 victory over Division I University of Detroit Mercy.

This is the first dual match of the 2013-14 season for UW-Whitewater. UW-W competed in the Art Peterson Invite, the ITA Regional Championships and ITA Small College Championships in the fall.
