The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team will host UW-Platteville for the Shaymus Guinn Cup this Friday at 7 p.m. at Fiskum Field.

The second annual game was created last season after Shaymus Guinn, son of UW-Whitewater head coach Tony Guinn, passed away in December 2012 at the age of 11 after a five-year battle against E-Wing Sarcoma and chemo-induced acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

T-shirts will be sold at Friday's contest for $12 until supplies run out. All proceeds benefit the Shaymus Guinn Foundation, which raises funds to help foster and promote awareness of pediatric cancer and provide emotional and financial support to families coping with each devastating disease.

Both the men's soccer team and UW-Whitewater's Delta Chi fraternity have been selling t-shirts during the month of October. Any shirts sold during that time can be picked up at Friday's match.

Members of the team have also collected toys to be donated to the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

The Warhawks will wear orange jersey tops Friday in remembrance of Shaymus and to raise awareness for the foundation.

Last season's match ended in thrilling fashion, as UW-Whitewater overcame a 2-1 deficit in the final five minutes to win 3-2 at UW-Platteville.

With the match tied at 2-2, John Gottwald (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) knocked a corner kick to Sam Novak (Milton, Wis./Milton), who headed in the go-ahead goal with just one second remaining to give the Warhawks a memorable victory and the first-ever Cup.

UW-Whitewater enters Friday's match on a nine-game unbeaten streak (7-0-2).
