The Warhawks (9-0 overall, 6-0 WIAC) swept UW-River Falls 9-0 to start the day, then concluded with a 9-0 triumph over UW-Stout.
Freshmen All-Americans
Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) and
Alicia Beck (Bismarck, ND/St. Mary's Central), junior captain
Ashley Miller (Racine/Union Grove) and freshman
Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) and senior
Emily Sodemann (Janesville/Parker) and
Brooke Hendricks (Sterling, IL/Sterling) won doubles matches at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 to give UW-Whitewater a 3-0 start against UW-River Falls (4-7, 1-5).
McGuire, Talyansky and Hendricks were also winners in singles play. McGuire tallied a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the top position, while Talyansky registered a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3. Hendricks didn't surrender a game in a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at the sixth spot.
Senior
Amanda Dick (Kenosha/St. Joseph Catholic Academy) recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the second slot, while freshman
Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) swept at No. 4 for a 6-0, 6-0 win. Sophomore
Rachel Siemon (Crystal Lake, IL/South) completed the Warhawks' sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 5.
Against UW-Stout (3-13, 0-6), UW-Whitewater earned victories at each of the three doubles spots. Beck and Wallace teamed up at No. 1 (8-3), Miller and Siemon won 8-2 at No. 2 and Hendricks and Talyansky earned an 8-6 result at the third position.
In order of flight, McGuire, Beck, Wallace, Miller, Sodemann and freshman
Brittany Goebel (McHenry, IL/West) all earned straight-set wins.
The Warhawks conclude the fall season at next weekend's WIAC Championship on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25-26, at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. UW-Whitewater seeks its eighth consecutive conference championship.
