Late Goal Helps Men’s Soccer Extend Unbeaten Streak to Six

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team let its early lead slip away Saturday but responded to a late goal with a tally of its own to earn a 3-3 tie at UW-Superior in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest in Superior, Wis.
 
After a late goal put the Yellow Jackets (9-5-1) ahead by one in the 89th minute, junior defender Jordan Wilkins (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) leveled the match in the 90th to help the Warhawks extend their unbeaten streak to six matches.
 
After a scoreless first half, UW-Whitewater (8-3-3) opened the second period with two goals in the first six-plus minutes. Junior forward Sam Novak (Milton, Wis./Milton) posted his second goal of the season in the 49th minute off a pass from senior midfielder John Gottwald (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee), his conference-leading eighth assist of the year.
 
In the 52nd, senior midfielder Ty McCoy (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) contributed his third goal of the campaign to double the Warhawks' lead.
 
UW-Superior tallied in the 64th and 79th to tie the match.
 
UW-Whitewater held a 22-16 advantage in shots and an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
 
Senior goalkeeper Josh Rohde (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) played all 110 minutes and totaled eight saves.
 
The Warhawks complete their two-match trip north tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Finlandia (Mich.).
