The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team quickly erased a one-goal deficit with two second-half scores Sunday in a 2-1 victory at St. Norbert in a non-conference affair in Green Bay, Wis.
Trailing 1-0 after a goal by the Green Knights in the 52nd minute, the Warhawks (8-3-2 overall) tallied twice in a seven-minute span to take the lead for good.
UW-Whitewater is now 4-0-1 in its last five matches.
Senior defender
Ryan Reid (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) posted the equalizer with a header off a corner kick by senior midfielder
John Gottwald (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) in the 59th. It was Reid's fourth goal of the year, which is tied for the team lead. Gottwald recorded his team-best seventh assist of the season, which already ties for the 10th-most assist in one season in program history.
Just over six minutes later, in the 65th minute, Gottwald registered the game-winner on a penalty kick after the Warhawks were fouled in the box. It was his fourth goal of the year.
Senior goalkeeper
Josh Rohde (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) improved to 6-2-1 on the year, totaling six saves in the affair.
UW-Whitewater outshot St. Norbert (7-2-2) by a 20-7 margin, including a 15-3 advantage in the first half. The Warhawks also bested the Green Knights in corner kicks, 7-1.
UW-Whitewater opens Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Friday at UW-Superior. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
