Sundby Provides Overtime Winner; Warhawks 5-0-0

Box Score Kyle Sundby (Verona/Verona) scored his second goal of the season, and only goal of Tuesday's game, to lead the Warhawks to a 1-0 overtime victory over Dubuque.   This is the second overtime win of the season for the Warhawks who remain unbeaten with a record of 5-0-0.  The Spartans fall to 1-4-1 with the home loss.

Both teams had a couple of chances early in the game.  Sam Novak (Milton, Wis./Milton) and Bob Shone (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles East) each ripped a shot in the first six minutes that the Spartan goalkeeper had to save.  Dubuque returned the favor at 12:29 firing a shot that Josh Rohde (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) had to stop.

The Spartans got help from the goal post two and a half minutes into the second half when Ty McCoy (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) fired a shot that was just wide.  Each team attempted one more shot on goal the rest of the way, but the game remained scoreless and went to overtime.

McCoy provided some more offensive pressure in the overtime, ripping a shot that Spartan goalkeeper Jose Resendiz had to save.  Several minutes later the Spartans were tagged with a foul that awarded a free kick to UW-W.  Sundby found the ball on his foot after bouncing around in the goal box after the free kick and pounded it in the net to end the game.

UW-W punished the Spartan defense with 17 shots, six on goal, to eight shots, two on goal, for Dubuque.

Josh Rohde (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) and the Warhawk defense continue to impress this season.  They have given up just two goals in five games.  Rohde has played every minute in goal for UW-W this season.

Beloit will visit UW-Whitewater Sunday for a match beginning at 3:00 pm at Fiskum Field in Whitewater.
