Bob Shone (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles East) scored the first goal of the game, and for UW-W, in the twentieth minute of play.  This was the first goal of the season for Shone who is primarily a defensive player for the Warhawks.

The Knights evened the score nine minutes into the second half when a long ball by Kevin Krueger found Paris Martins who knocked it in to tie the game.

Both goalkeepers, Zak Kohlmeyer of Wartburg, and Josh Rohde (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) of UW-Whitewater, were pressured throughout the game and both made big saves in the end of regulation to keep the game tied.

In the overtime period Michael Salm (Grafton, Wis. /Grafton) tried to end things early with a shot on goal 52 seconds in that was stopped by Kohlmeyer.  Wartburg returned fire a minute and a half later but Rohde made the save.

A minute and a half later UW-W gained control and fired a shot that ricocheted off of a Wartburg defender and resulted in a corner kick for the Warhawks.  Kody Mjelde (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) served the ball into the box and Ty McCoy (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) put his head on it and knocked into the goal for the sudden death win.

Rohde made seven saves in the game and has allowed just one goal this season.

UW-W outshot the Knights 21-15 in the game.

The Warhawks will travel to Naperville, Illinois Sunday for a match at 1:00 pm against North Central College.
