Men's Tennis Runs Win Streak to Twelve

Knock Off Elmhurst and Unbeaten Coe

UW-Whitewater, ranked twenty-eighth in the ITA Division III national poll, ran its win streak to twelve with two wins Sunday, defeating previously unbeaten Coe College 7-2 and beating Elmhurst College 8-1 on the Wangerin Courts in Whitewater.  All three teams are ranked in the ITA Central Region poll, with the wins coming as UW-W awaits word on a berth in the NCAA III championship tournament, May 20-22 at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Whitewater has earned a bid to the national tourney six consecutive years.

Coe, ranked ninth in the ITA Central Region poll (where UW-W is fifth), is not ranked in the national poll.  With its first loss, Coe is 29-1 in dual matches this year.  In a match that may be important when individual invitations to the NCAA III championship are extended, Coe's Sprinkel is fifth in the Central Region singles ratings, with Shklyar of Whitewater ranked ninth.

Elmhurst, ranked fifteenth in the Central Region, is 12-9 in dual matches.  Elmhurst's Harbert is ranked sixteenth in the ITA Division III Central Region, matching up with Shklyar of Whitewater, ranked fifth.  Shklyar and partner Mitch Osborne (Crystal Lake, IL/Central), ranked third in doubles in the Central Region, upped their record to 15-8 with a pair of wins Sunday, hoping for consideration for the NCAA III tournament.

UW-W, 19-11, has concluded its regular season.  The Warhawks will await word on a NCAA Division III tournament bid.  UW-W has earned a berth in the national championship tournament the last six years in a row.  The NCAA III team championship will be hosted by Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan May 20-22.  The NCAA III individual tournament, singles and doubles, follows May 23-25 in Kalamazoo.
