Shutout of Grinnell Gives Barnes 200

UW-Whitewater defeated Grinnell College 9-0 Saturday at Cherokee Country Club in Madison, Wisconsin, giving head coach Frank Barnes his 200th win in his eleventh season at UW-W.

UW-Whitewater will travel to Greencastle, Indiana to play Case Western Reserve University Saturday, February 23, play beginning at 2:00 p.m. and host DePauw University at 6:00.  The next home match for the Warhawks will be March 15 at 5:00, when UW-W meets Carthage College at the Four Lakes Club in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.

Barnes, UW-Whitewater's tennis coordinator, is in his eleventh year at UW-W.  He has directed the men's team to a 200-95 won loss record, including seven 20+ win seasons in a row.  He is second among the five coaches in school history, trailing only Ron Wangerin, who compiled a 239-116 record in twenty-three seasons.  Barnes is also nearing the 200 milestone with the Warhawk women's team.  Halfway through the women's 2012-13 schedule Barnes' record stands at 176-61.  The Warhawk women have won six consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles.  (Note:  men's tennis is not a WIAC sport.)  The men's team has made six straight NCAA Division III championship tournament appearances.

UW-W is 3-5 this spring.  Grinnell is 6-3.  The Warhawks, ranked twenty-ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III poll, have played four Division III teams (3-1) and four Division I (0-4).
