Guilfoil Scores Winner as Warhawks Remain Unbeaten

Box Score Emma Guilfoil (Madison/Madison West) scored her first collegiate goal in a 1-0 win over UW-La Crosse Saturday night at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The Warhawks earned their sixth shutout of the season en route to improving their overall record to 9-0-2 and their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record to 4-0-0. The Eagles drop to 2-7-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the WIAC.

The teams played a scoreless first half as they each shot the ball five times. UW-W put four of those shots on goal.

The pressure by both teams increased early in the second half and offsides was called three times as both teams were anxious to be the first to score.

UW-L was whistled for a foul in the 75th minute which led to a free kick for the Warhawks. Laren Nashleanas (Brookfield/Brookfield East) took the kick and put it right on the head of Guilfoil who knocked it in for the lone goal of the game.

Jordan Myers (Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley) earned her fifth shutout of the season and 18th of her career making three saves in the game. She is now tied for the lead in career shutouts with Caryn Huth who played for UW-W from 1996-1999.

The Warhawks will put their undefeated record on the line in their next match against Illinois Wesleyan on October 9 in Bloomington, Illinois at 5 pm.
