Box Score The UW-Whitewater men's soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime draw at the University of Chicago Saturday afternoon on Stagg Field. The Maroons are now 7-4-2 on the year and the Warhawks are 14-4-1. This is the sixth overtime game for UW-W this season, and the first time they have not won.
The teams played a near even game through the first 45 minutes with UW-W firing four shots, three on goal, while Chicago had three shots, two on goal.
Chicago came out shooting in the second half, recording ten shots in the half. Despite getting outshot 10-3 in the second half, Whitewater got on the board first when
Bob Shone (St. Charles, IL/St. Charles East) sent a free kick into the box and
Ryan Reid (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) punched it in to score his fourth goal of the year and give UW-W a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute. It was Shone's second assist on the year.
The Maroons went into desperation mode in the final few minutes of the game. After a foul by the Warhawks gave Chicago a free kick in UW-W's defensive zone, the Maroons were able to serve the ball into the box and put it in the goal from five yards out in the final second of regulation to tie the game.
Neither team was able to put the ball on net in either overtime period bringing the game to a final, 1-1.
The Warhawks will wrap-up the regular season when they travel to UW-Oshkosh on November 2 to face the Titans with kickoff set for 6:30 pm.
