The UW-Whitewater men's tennis team opened their spring season with a 6-1 loss to Division I Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois Friday.
The teams used a facility with three indoor courts for the match. After the 1-2-3 flights of singles were finished the Huskies led 3-0, but UW-W threatened a bit, forcing the 4-5-6 singles matches to extend play for a decision. Points for doubles matches are combined, with the team winning a majority receiving a single point.

The Warhawk men's tennis team played in three tournaments in the fall, but the NIU match is the first of their primary, spring schedule. UW-W takes on another Division I opponent, closer to home, traveling to Madison to take on the Badgers February 2. Four of Whitewater's first five matches are against Division I opponents, all on the road.
The first "home" competition of the season will come February 15 when the Warhawks will host UW-Oshkosh at 12:00 and Wheaton College at 3:00 at the
Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
