Knights Top Warhawks 3-2

Box Score The Warhawks men's soccer team lost on the road to Wartburg College 3-2 Sunday evening bringing their season record to 4-3-1.

The Knights struck first with a goal just 1:35 into the game off the foot of Zubeen Azari, his third of the season. Brandon Cook gave Wartburg a 2-0 lead at 20:37 with this second goal of 2012 finding the lower left corner of the net.

The match may have seemed to be out of reach after the first 45 minutes but Kody Mjelde (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) cut the deficit in half with his first goal of the season at 62:40. The Knights answered at 76:11 with Brandon Cook notching his second goal of the contest to push the lead back to two goals, 3-1.

Logan Fye (Rockford, IL/Winnebago) made good on a penalty kick at 78:55 for his third goal of the season but the Warhawks were unable produce more offense as the final buzzer sounded with Wartburg showcasing a 3-2 advantage.

The Warhawks posted advantages in shots (18-14) and shots on goal (8-7) in the contest. The Knights evened the score statistically with advantages in the corner kick (7-4) and save (6-4) categories.

UW-W goalie Matt Mikesell (Waukesha/Kettle Moraine) recorded four saves but suffers the loss moving to 4-3-1 this season. Wartburg goalies Zak Kohlmeyer and Cade Shatzer split time in the box combining for six saves while Kohlmeyer registers the win to improve to 3-4.

The Warhawks will host UW-Platteville in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match Thursday, October 4 beginning at 7:00 at Fiskum Field in Whitewater.
