UW-Whitewater fell to the University of Dubuque 3-0 Sunday in Dubuque, Iowa.
Dubuque had a 6-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but five of them were off net and UW-W's
Matt Mikesell (Waukesha/Kettle Moraine) saved the other as the teams went to intermission tied 0-0.
Whitewater got a shot on goal from
Ryan Boyd (Waunakee/Waunakee) at the 48:01 mark, but Dubuque goalie Nicholas Kasper made the save. Dubuque put pressure on and, after a foul on Whitewater, UW-W took a red card to set up a UD penalty shot. Cory Winkler put it in the net for his first of the year, providing what proved to be the game winner at 52:19.
Just thirty seconds later
Logan Fye (Rockford, IL/Winnebago) attempted the equalizer but Kasper kept UW-W off the board on what proved to be UW-W's last shot on net in the match. At 56:19 Pablo Martinez connected from the left side on a cross goal pas from Glenn Verley to put Dubuque up 2-0.
Winkler added Dubuque's third goal in the box off a throw in at 88:37. He was assisted by Verley and Sam McKee.
Dubuque out-shot Whitewater 13-6, but Whitewater had more corner kicks, 6-3.
UW-W is 0-4 this season and Dubuque is 4-0.
Whitewater will travel to Bloomington, Illinois for a game Thursday. The Warhawks' next home appearance will be Sunday the 18th at 3:00 with Ripon College in town. Home games are played at Fiskum Field, located on the north end of campus, west of Perkins Stadium and northwest of Williams Center/Kachel Fieldhouse.
