Warhawk Netters Split in Kalamazoo

The UW-Whitewater men's tennis team, ranked twenty-third in the International Tennis Associational poll, defeated #30 Kalamazoo College, 5-4, for the first time in program history Saturday afternoon. The Warhawks fell to 8-3 in dual matches this season with a 5-4 loss to Case Western Reserve University in the nightcap in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

With the match tied at 4-4, the sixth flight of singles was left to determine a winner. Whitewater's Krieger pressed to make a three set match but Case Western's Klawitter came away with the win.

Warhawk netter, Niquet, took a two set match over Kalamazoo's Bartelt to bring the score to 5-3 and clinch the win for Whitewater.

The Warhawks are now 8-3 in dual matches this season. Whitewater's Bayliss moved to 9-1 at number two singles and 14-4 overall this season. Niquet maintained an unblemished record in the fifth flight of singles at 5-0 while improving to 14-2 overall. The Warhawk doubles team of Osborne and Balkin remain unbeaten in the 2010-11 season with ten wins. Bayliss and Niquet have teamed up for seven wins this season with just one loss.

UW-W will travel to St. Peter, MN to face Augustana (SD) Saturday, March 12 at 6:00 pm. The Warhawks will remain in St. Peter for a match Sunday, March 13 at 8:00 am against Gustavus Adolphus College.
