Warhawk Women Sixth in WIAC Championship

Jolyn Owen broke her own previous school-record in the Heptathlon Saturday, but the Warhawks couldn't move up in the rankings on day two, finishing sixth in the 2010 WIAC Championship held in River Falls.

Owen took first in the heptathlon, scoring 4,410 points which broke her mark of 4,176 when she scored it on April 17 of this year.  Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) also took first, jumping 1.68 m (5 feet 6 inches) in the high jump. Both Owen and Demos have provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III track and field championship prior to this meet.

Danielle Anton (Marshall/Marshall) also contributed placing third in the 400 m hurdles with a time of 1:06.72.  Sara Poppe (Germantown/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) also placed third, leaping 11.59 m (38 feet .25 inches) in the triple jump. Demos and Owen added more points by eaching earning a fifth place finish; Demos turned in a time of 15.53 in the 100 m hurdles and Owen recorded 1.58 m (5 feet 2.25 inches) in the high jump.  Madeline Roznos (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) helped by placing sixth in the 5000 m, running it in 18:04.04 while relays in the 4x100 finished seventh (50.84) and the 4x400 finished eighth(4:10.48).

Megan Morehart (Edgerton/Milton) added a seventh place finish, running the 100 m hurdles in16.10, while Jessa Luebke (Tomah/Tomah) also placed seventh, throwing 12.78 m (41 feet 11.25 inches) in the shot put. Luebke also set a season best in the discus, throwing it 37.97 m (124 feet 7 inches).

Katelyn Britt (Hartland/Arrowhead) and Rachel Puls (Hartford/Slinger) finished in eighth place, with Britt recording 3.26 m (10 feet 8.25 inches) in the pole vault and Puls 10.52 m (34 feet 6.25 inches) in the triple jump.

Complete team results: UW-La Crosse 189, UW-Oshkosh 149.50, UW-Eau Claire 141.50, UW-River Falls 108, UW-Stevens Point 96, UW-Whitewater 71, UW-Platteville 61 and UW-Stout 42.

The Warhawks will travel to Chicago, Illinois to face the University of Chicago next Saturday.
