Warhawks in Sixth After Day One of WIAC Championships

The Warhawks scored in five events to put them in sixth out of eight teams after day one of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Sara Poppe (Germantown/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) was the top Warhawk finisher on Friday taking third in the long jump with a distance of 5.35 meters (17 feet, 6.75 inches).  Jessa Luebke (Tomah/Tomah) finished fifth in the hammer throw recording a distance of 48.06 meters (157 feet, 8 inches).  Both Poppe and Luebke have provisionally qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships with distances recorded prior to the conference meet.

A time of 11:16.63 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase by Madeline Roznos (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) was good for fifth place and a javelin toss of 29.21 meters (95 feet, 10 inches) by Liz Colver (Waukegan, IL/Waukegan) was good for sixth.

UW-W also scored points in the 4x800 meter relay with a seventh place finish in a time of 10:02.12.

Another meet highlight was Katie McCabe (Random Lake/Random Lake) recording a season best in the 10,000 meters with a time of 39:02.06.  McCabe's time on Friday was 57 seconds better than the previous season best.

Team scores after day one: UW-La Crosse 66.50, UW-Oshkosh 65.50, UW-Eau Claire 40, UW-Stevens Point 30, UW-River Falls 23, UW-Whitewater 20, UW-Platteville 16, and UW-Stout 12.

Competition will continue and conclude on Saturday.
