Sara Poppe (Germantown/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) set a school record in the triple jump leaping 11.98 meters (39 ft 3.65 in) on Saturday at the Benedictine Eagle Invite to lead UW-Whitewater to a second place finish out of 23 teams. Poppe not only set a school record, but she provisionally qualified for the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May. She was just two centimeters off of qualifying automatically for the meet. Poppe bested the previous school record of 38 ft 9.75 in set by Stacey Hornickel in 1999.

Also winning on Saturday for UW-W was
Danielle Anton (Marshall/Marshall) who ran the 400 meter hurdles in 1:06.81. The Warhawks had three second place finishes at the meet including
Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker)' performance in the 100 meter hurdles (16.28), and
Jessa Luebke (Tomah/Tomah)'s finishes in the shot put (12.65m) and the hammer throw (44.94m). Her mark in the shot put is a season best for the team.
Other season bests were set in the 1500 meter run by
Alyssa Duncan (East Troy/East Troy) (5:01.08) and Demos in the high jump (1.58m).
The Warhawks earned points in thirteen events and totaled 86 points for the meet. Taking first place was Bethel College with 179 points. Rounding out the top five were the University of Illinois (75.5), Carroll University (67), and Clarke College (51).
UW-W will travel to the Old Fashion Meet in Naperville, Illinois on April 21 for a meet beginning at 4:00 pm.
