Poppe, UW-Whitewater's record holder in the event indoors, jumped 37-6.5 to finish seventh Saturday. Nikki Hay of Springfield College (MA) won the triple jump with a distance of 39-3.75, the best jump in Division III this season. Poppe is just the second UW-W woman to earn all-America honors in the NCAA indoor meet, with Tamara Hofer the first with a fifth place finish in 1988. Poppe's honor marks the fifth time overall, indoors or outdoors, that UW-Whitewater has had an all-American in the triple jump.
Poppe was the only Warhawk female athlete competing Saturday. UW-W teammate
Shelby Demos (Janesville/Parker) captured sixth place in the high jump Friday, earning all-America recognition. Poppe was also a qualifier Friday, in the long jump, but she did not advance to the finals of that event. Also Friday
Jessa Luebke (Tomah/Tomah) did not advance to the finals of the weight throw and
Brooke Bell (Milwaukee/Alexander Hamilton) did not advance in the 55 meters.
UW-W finished forty-fifth in the team standings. Wartburg College won the national title, edging UW-Oshkosh.
