Championship Football Team Honored at Special Events

The National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III championship UW-Whitewater football team has been honored at several recent special events.  The team was recognized by the Whitewater Common Council February 1, at halftime of the UW-Whitewater men's basketball versus UW-La Crosse February 3, at a reception hosted by Governor Doyle at his home in Madison February 4, and by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents February 5.

UW-Whitewater went undefeated, 15-0, for the 2009 season.  The Warhawks won their fifth consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and, for the fifth straight year, advanced in the NCAA III playoffs to the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl for the Division III championship.  UW-W defeated Mount Union College 38-28 in Salem, Virginia December 19 for its second national title in three years.
