Emily Gerber (DeForest/DeForest) was named UW-Whitewater's and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference offensive player of the week for women's soccer. Geber had a hand in all three goals in UW-Whitewater's 3-2 win Saturday against UW-La Crosse. She scored Whitewater's first two goals and assisted on the game winning goal, made by
Christina Tooren (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) in overtime. This win gave the Warhawks a share of the WIAC title for the first time in school history. Gerber, the 2009 WIAC Player of the Year, finished the regular season as the second leading scorer in the WIAC (behind teammate Tooren's 36 points), with twelve goals and nine assists for a total of 33 points. UW-Whitewater is ranked eighth in the NSCAA North Region Poll.
Jenna Samp (Palatine, IL/Palatine) was named UW-Whitewater's defensive player of the week for women's soccer. Samp was a staple in UW-Whitewater's back line in a 3-2 overtime win against UW-La Crosse Saturday. La Crosse was held to only eleven shots compared to Whitewater's twenty; and three shots of goal compared to Whitewater's eleven. This win captured a share of the team's first intercollegiate conference championship.
