#6 Warhawks Win Twelfth Game

The UW-Whitewater men's soccer team remained undefeated in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a win against UW-Superior Sunday in Superior by a score of 3-2.  The Warhawks, ranked sixth in the latest NSCAA National Rankings, improve to 12-1-2 overall and 3-0-0 in the WIAC while the Yellowjackets fall to 8-7-2 overall and 1-3-0 in league play.

Dan Montanye (Mukwonago/Mukwonago) scored two goals, each on a free kick, to give the Warhawks a 2-0 lead.  His first goal came at the 34:00 mark and his second at the 50:32 mark.

The 'Jackets responded with two goals in the second half to tie the game.  The first was a goal by Eric Nilsen, and the second by Tyler Houghton.

Elijah Newallo (Madison/Memorial) came off the bench to score the game winning goal with just under twelve minutes remaining.  His goal came from another free kick taken by Montanye that was served into the box and knocked in by Newallo.

Matt Mikesell (Waukesha/Kettle Moraine) remained unbeaten when in the goal for UW-W and improves to 9-0-0 this season.  He was forced to make four saves in the game on seven total shots.  The Warhawks shot the ball 16 times in comparison, ten in the first half and six in the second.  Trevor Swentik (Delafield/Marquette University HS) and Montanye each fired off five shots in the game while Matt Evanoff (Wind Lake/Muskego) accounted for two.

UW-Superior was whistled for 20 fouls in the game and received two yellow cards. In contrast, UW-W was called for 11 fouls and received one yellow card.

UW-Whitewater will compete again on October 30 in a match against UW-Oshkosh beginning at 7:30 pm in Whitewater at Fiskum Field.
