UW-Whitewater defeated Wartburg College 4-1 on Sunday evening in Whitewater at Robert W. Fiskum Field. The Warhawks scored two goal in each half en route to handing the Knights their first loss of the season. UW-W improves to 3-2-0 as they have won their last 2 games and the Knights fall to 3-1-1.

Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) scored his third goal of the season and first of the match in the fourteenth minute on a slick pass from Tim Windler (South Milwaukee/South Milwaukee). Wartburg got a shot off in the twenty-third minute to try to tie the game but it sailed wide of the goal. Ten minutes later the 'Hawks went up 2-0 on a goal by Trevor Swentik (Delafield/Marquette University HS), his second of the season.
UW-W goalkeeper Andrew Krueger (New Berlin/Catholic Memorial) made four saves in the first half to keep the Knights off of the scoreboard. The Wartburg keeper, Trent Michael, faced nine UW-W shots in the first half, allowed two to score and saved three.
The Warhawks went up 3-0 on a goal by Ryan Boyd (Waunakee/Waunakee). Boyd knocked it in after Wartburg goalkeeper Trent Michael was unable to gather a shot by Luke Mangognia (Hoffman Estates, IL/Palatine) he deflected moments earlier.
Wartburg answered with their lone goal of the game in the 77th minute.
Bemis Gorvego (Middleton/Middleton) finished the scoring for UW-W with his first goal of the season off of a pass from Mangognia.
The play was balanced for a majority of the game while Wartburg out shot the 'Hawks 15-14. The fouls were also fairly even with the Knights being whistled for 14 to UW-W's 13.
The Warhawks are off until September 19 when they travel to Michigan to face Alma College on Saturday and Olivet College on Sunday. The next home game for UW-W is on September 22 against Carroll University at 7:00 pm at Robert W. Fiskum field in Whitewater.
