Men's Team Sweeps Three Events

UW-Whitewater won its Whitewater Invitational, finishing first in a field of twelve teams Saturday in the Kachel Fieldhouse in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

Team scores were:  UW-Whitewater 245.5, Carthage 95, MSOE 77.5, Carroll 61.83, Saint Norbert 56.3, Dubuque 37.5, Aurora 32.5, North Park 16.5, Beloit 13, Edgewood 11, Oakton 9, and Lawrence 0.3.

Whitewater piled up points with 1-2-3 sweeps of three events.  In the pole vault Dan Krause (Brookfield/Wisconsin Lutheran), Brandon Kiraly (Deerfield/Deerfield) and Dane Dzubinski (Brookfield/Waukesha North) top the top three places, all going 14-0, with the placing determining by misses.  UW-W also swept the high jump, with Travis Morehouse (Cottage Grove/Monona Grove) (6-5.5) first, Luke Buchholz (Whitewater/Whitewater) (6-1.5), and Kyle Lencho (Whitewater/Whitewater) (6-1.5).  UW-W earned the top three places in the 800 meters, with Aron Kehoe (Monroe/Monroe) (1:52.96), Matt Kovensky (1:55.6), and Brakken Kraker (West Allis/West Allis Central) crossing the line third (1:56.14).  Kehoe's time meets the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III championship provisional qualifying standard.

Ryan Howell (New Glarus/New Glarus) and Shaun Davis (Edgerton/Edgerton) finished 1-2 in the weight throw, with Howell throwing 54-7.50 to meet the NCAA III championship provisional qualifying standard, and Davis marking 53-2.25.

Other first place finishers for the Warhawks came from Jonathan Fink (Muskego/Wisconsin Lutheran) winning the 3000 (9:08.95), Luke Hibner (Elmhurst, IL/York Community) the shot put (50-9.5), and the 4x400 relay (3:26.08)

Additional second place points were provided by Cory Lockridge (Milwaukee/Rufus King) in the long jump (22-3), Brian Gendrick in the 55 hurdles (7.95), Alek Konopacki (Madison/Madison West) in the 400 (51.26), and Mike Schmidt (Menominee Falls/Hartford Union) went 52-3.25 in the triple jump.

The Warhawks also had four more third place finishes, in addition to those mentioned above.  These include the distance medley relay (10:57.09), David Schneekloth (Seymour, WI/Seymour) in 5000 (15:49.28), Josh Ireland (South Milwaukee/South Milwaukee) in the 200 (23.02), and Whitewater's "B" team ran 3:27.46 in the 4x400 relay.

UW-W will compete in the Warren Bowlus Open hosted by UW-Stout in Menomonie Saturday, January 31.  The next home meet will be the Warhawk Invitational Saturday, February 6 at 10:00.
