McCarthy set the tone in kickoff coverage, posting two tackles to help the No. 2 Warhawks defeat Belhaven (Miss.) 59-13 Saturday in a non-conference affair at Perkins Stadium. He made the tackle on the game's opening kickoff to force the Blazers to start from their own 13-yard line and added another stop in the fourth quarter to start Belhaven's drive at the 19-yard line. McCarthy and the kickoff coverage unit forced the Blazers to start inside their own 25-yard line on all 10 kickoffs.
