Ben John, a 30-year coaching veteran, was hired as an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s soccer team prior to the 2018 season.
John most recently served as technical director and senior coach for the Rush Wisconsin Soccer Club since 2013. In addition to overseeing budget operations and a staff of 18 coaches, John implemented all club policy and procedures and was involved in strategic planning, marketing, fundraising and facilities for the Middleton-based club. He worked as head women’s coach for Rush National Select in Denver, Colo., from 2016-18.
John worked in three different positions during his 11 years with Yahara Soccer Club of Middleton, serving as director of coaching from 2002-04, executive director from 2004-09 and director of coaching and senior trainer from 2009-13. He also worked as an administrator as the director of soccer operations and head men’s and women’s coach at Mount St. Clare College in Clinton, Iowa, from 1993-2001, and as co-founder and co-director of the International Soccer Academy in Clinton from 1994-97.
John also held several positions within higher education during his career. He served as an assistant men’s and women’s soccer coach at Edgewood (2002-03) and Luther (1990-92), and worked stints as the director of residence life and director of student life at Mount St. Clare. John previously worked as an educational counselor at the University of Iowa (1992-93) and as the assistant coordinator of multicultural student services at Luther (1991-92).
John currently owns UEFA “B” and USSF “D” coaching licenses and is a member of the United Soccer Coaches and the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association. He is a consultant for Soccer Genius, a Middleton-based soccer technology company.
John graduated from Luther with a bachelor’s in psychology and mass communications. He currently resides in Madison.
