Nelson Edmonds

Nelson Edmonds returns to the UW-Whitewater football staff for his fourth stint as an assistant coach. Edmonds will work with the running backs during the 2016 season.

During his first season back on staff in 2015, senior running back Jordan Ratliffe rushed for 1,714 yards (6.0 yards per carry) and 23 touchdowns, and was named a D3football.com All-American. Edmonds also aided in the development of freshman Jarrod Ware, who complemented Ratliffe with 440 yards and four touchdowns.

A Madison native, Edmonds began coaching for the Warhawks in 1994 as a student assistant and was on staff until 2004. He returned for the 2005 season before accepting an advising position at UW-Madison for the 2006-07 academic year. Edmonds returned to UW-Whitewater prior to the 2007 season and served as special teams coordinator and running backs coach through the 2012 campaign.

During Edmonds' time as an assistant, the Warhawks have won four national championships, appeared in six Stagg Bowls and claimed 10 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles. He has coached 27 all-conference honorees, 10 All-Americans and one Gagliardi Trophy winner.
 
After graduating from Madison East High School, Edmonds took his substantial football talent to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to attend Northern Michigan University, where he was an All-American running back. He was a student assistant coach at Northern Michigan for one season before coming to UW-Whitewater.

Edmonds earned his bachelor's in English from UW-Whitewater in 2002. He received a master's in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Health, Physical Education and Coaching from UW-Whitewater in 2003. Edmonds is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Management - Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix.
 
Edmonds currently works at UW-Whitewater as Associate Director of Academic Advising and the Exploration Center and Director of the Office of Reinstated and Probationary Students/Academic Standards/Testing. He served as the institution's interim Director of Admissions during the 2014-15 academic year.

Edmonds and his wife, Amy, reside in Whitewater with two daughters, Alisandra and Matiana.
