Shaun Wegner enters his sixth season as an assistant coach for the UW-Whitewater baseball team in 2017-18.
Wegner played baseball at UW-Milwaukee for three years. During this time, he was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer team in 2007, and was a second all-league pick in 2008. While at UW-Milwaukee Wegner served as team captain during his final two years of competition and compiled a career batting average of .280.
After graduating from UW-Milwaukee, Wegner served as graduate assistant coach at Minnesota State University-Mankato for two years. He earned an award for the highest GPA in MSU history. During Wegner's two seasons on staff, the Mavericks posted a combined record of 91-24 and qualified for the NCAA Division II Tournament twice, including a trip to the 2012 Division II College World Series, which yielded a third-place finish.

Wegner and head coach Vodenlich each worked with the
Lakeshore Chinooks in the
Northwoods League in 2012, the team's inaugural season. The Northwoods League is a collegiate summer league. Vodenlich served as the team's manager and Wegner as an assistant coach.
In addition to his summer with the Chinooks, Wegner served as the field manager and an administrator for the Sheboygan A's, who play in the Wisconsin State League, Northeastern Wisconsin League and the Langsdorf League of Southeastern Wisconsin.
Wegner graduated in 2010 with his bachelor's in communications and economics from UW-Milwaukee. He earned his master's in sports management in May 2012 from Minnesota State-Mankato.Â
Wegner is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
