Ryan Callahan

Ryan Callahan enters his fifth season as UW-Whitewater’s pitching coaching following a professional baseball career and one of the most successful pitching careers in Whitewater history.

The former Warhawk captain spent three years in the Minnesota Twins and San Francisco Giants organization after leading Whitewater to four postseason appearances, including a third place finish at the 2004 Division III College World Series.

The Whitewater pitching record books have Callahan’s name plastered all over them. Callahan finds himself in the top ten all-time in career innings pitched (211, 7th), strikeouts (193, 6th), wins/loss record (18-6, 8th), earned run average (3.52, 10th), shutouts (4, 2nd) and walks per nine innings (2.38, 4th).

In addition to finding his name in the career pitching record books, Callahan had two of the most successful single season performances in program history.

In 2001, Callahan led the team in innings pitched (72), strikeouts (72), complete games (5) and shutouts (2). Three years later in 2004, Callahan again led the Warhawks in complete games (3) and shutouts (2), as well as earned run average (2.21).

Callahan was named First Team All-WIAC in 2001, 2003 and 2004 as a pitcher and honorable mention as an outfielder in 2004.

Under Callahan’s tutelage in 2011, Whitewater’s pitching staff posted a 3.40 team earned run average, the fourth best mark in school history.
