Case Western, the four seed, knocked off top seeded St. Thomas 7-3 Friday in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Regional in Whitewater at James B. Miller Stadium at Prucha Field. The Spartans, 29-13, advance to the final day of competition and will play at noon against UW-Stevens Point regardless of the turnout of Steven’s Point game against St. Scholastica this evening.
Kevin Johnstone threw eight innings for Case to earn the win and improve to 4-3. Johnstone gave up six hits and three runs while striking out four. Offensively the Spartans were led by Brett Ossola who went 3x4 with three runs scored and one RBI on a solo homerun in the seventh inning. Andrew Frey, the Case Western designated hitter, went 1x3 and scored three runs.
