NCAA III Regional Game Nine: UW-Stevens Point defeats St. Scholastica
The Messenger delivered. Ben Messenger threw seven and two-thirds, gave up six hits and two runs while getting ample run support in an 8-2 victory for UW-Stevens Point over the College of Saint Scholastica Friday in Whitewater at James B. Miller Stadium at Prucha Field in the NCAA DIII Regional.
Messenger added four strikeouts to his outing to improve to 5-1 this season.
Jimmy Coady was solid at the plate for UW-SP going 4x5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Riley Spetz was the only other Pointer to tally multiple hits (2x4).
St. Scholastica committed four errors in the game, two resulting in runs for the Pointers. The Saints also stranded eight runners.
The Saints finish their season with a 28-11 record while the Pointers, 38-9, advance to the championship. UW-Stevens Point will face Case Western Reserve at noon on Saturday. Should the Pointers falter in that game, there will be a second game at noon. The regional uses a double-elimination format. Case has lost once, Point has not lost.
