The St. Thomas pitching staff held the Benedictine Eagles to six hits and one run en route to a 10-1 victory Thursday in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Regional in Whitewater at James B. Miller Stadium at Prucha Field. The Tommies, 34-6, advance to play again Friday at 3 pm again a team yet to be determined. The Eagles end their season 32-12 after losing their first two games in the regional.
Three runs in the second and sixth, and four in the seventh gave St. Thomas a 10-0 lead and Colin Wendinger, Tommy Danczyk and Greg Clute did the rest.
Wendinger threw six innings and gave up no runs on three hits while striking out six to improve to 5-1 this season. Danczyk threw for the seventh and eighth and gave up just one hit while striking out one. Clute came in for the ninth and surrendered two hits and one run.
JD Dorgan led the Tommies at the plate going 3X6 with four RBIs. Ben Podobinski chipped in four hits and three runs and Tyler Peterson was 2X5 with three RBIs and two runs.
