Game eleven of the Whitewater Regional saw Luther College take on North Central College. The Norse struck first in the bottom of the opening inning. Senior Shari Huber led off the inning with a single through the right side, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. Huber would cross the plate on another groundout in the next at bat to give Luther the 1-0 lead.
The scoreboard remained 1-0 Luther until North Central added a tally in the top of the fourth. Junior Cardinal Vlasta Mangia opened with a single. A sacrifice bunt and a passed ball allowed Mangia to advance to third. Sophomore Carly Trenhaile singled to right field for the RBI two batters later to even the score 1-1.
Luther answered with two runs in their half of the inning. The Norse used three hits to plate two runs with Miranda McKay posting one RBI and Kayla Hatting adding the other.
Norse leftfielder Kelsey Weindruch provided some cushion with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth to give Luther a 4-1 lead.
The Cardinals posted a single run in the top of the sixth after loading the bases with two outs.
Trenhaile led all batters with two of North Central's four hits in the game. Mangia was credited with the loss after striking out two and allowing five hits in seven innings on the mound. Norse righty Becca Girvan allowed four hits in six innings while striking out two to improve to 21-5 this season.
Luther will face the winner of a Carthage/North Central matchup Sunday at 2:00.
