Second seventh time’s the charm.  Jared Fon’s two run homerun in the bottom of the second staked UW-Whitewater to a lead that the Warhawks never gave up in a 10-5 over UW-La Crosse Friday in a NCAA III regional game at Prucha Field at Miller Stadium in Whitewater, Wisconsin.  UW-W, 31-16 overall and 2-1 in the regional, will play again Friday, playing again at 7:00 against the winner of a Saint Norbert – Aurora game scheduled for 1:00.

Whitewater added single runs in the third and fourth, sandwiched around a La Crosse tally, gave UW-W a 4-1 lead after four.  UW-L walked in a run in the fifth, followed by a wild pitch that brought in another in a three run inning and a 7-1 lead for the Warhawks.  Matt Beyer’s three run homer in the fifth increased the lead to 10-1.  UW-L mounted a formidable rally in the ninth, scoring six times to bring the tying to the plate before UW-W could close the door.

UW-L, WIAC regular season and WIAC Tournament champions, had defeated UW-W, second in both, in their six previous meetings this season, including twice in the WIAC Tournament last weekend.

The Warhawks will face the winner of the St. Norbert and Aurora University match-up at 7:00 pm Friday night.
