Parker Olson’s run scoring triple to right drove in the game winning run in the thirteenth inning as Saint Scholastica defeated Aurora 8-4 in the NCAA III regional hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
Kyle Flagstad’s two run triple keyed a three-run third inning, staking Saint Scholastica to a 3-0 lead. CSS added another tally in the fourth to make it 4-0. Mike Foley got the Spartans on the board with a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth to halve the deficit to 4-2, followed by a RBI single to close within 4-3. Aurora’s Brett Van Asdlen singled in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh. Flagstad tripled to lead off the twelfth, but Aurora’s Thomas Rogers induced a ground ball that got Flagstad trying to score, and struck out two CSS batters to extend the game. And then it was Olson time. Kyle Jensen followed with a double to right to score Olson, and two more runs followed to put CSS up 8-4
Saint Scholastica, 35-9 overall and 2-0 in the regional, will face Saint Thomas, 36-8, at 4:00 Friday. Aurora, 37-9 and 1-1, will take on Saint Norbert, 27-12 and 1-1, at 1:00 Friday.
