The host and home team of the 2012 Midwest Regional, UW-Whitewater, got things going in the opening game of the tournament, putting a run on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Concordia-Chicago tied the game in the top of the seventh. The Warhawks got out of a jam in the top of the ninth with a double play after a lead-off single. The Warhawks threatened in the bottom of the inning putting two runners on with one out but a line out and strikeout sent the game into extra innings.
 
The Cougars went three up three down in the top of the tenth. Three consecutive singles in UW-W’s half of the inning brought pinch runner JT Schneider around to score from second with the game winning single off the bat of Matt Beyer.  Eric Schmitz went all ten innings for Whitewater, allowing five hits in raising his record to 9-2.
