NCAA Whitewater Regional Game Eight ... Friday 1:00

Speed kills.  And senior centerfielder Joe Link drove that point home in Saint Scholastica's 2-1 win over the University of Saint Thomas in the 1:00 game Friday in the Whitewater Regional of the NCAA III Baseball Championship Tournament at Prucha Field at Jim Miller Stadium in Whitewater, Wisconsin.  Jake Casareto's one out single in the second put the Saints up 1-0.  Taylor Rahm doubled in the tying run for the Tommies in the fourth.  Stage set for Link.  Link led off the sixth with a single through the left side.  Forty-two of forty-two in steal attempts coming in to the game, second in Division III, everyone knew what was coming next.  Link took off on an attempted steal of second and during his slide the throw from the catcher bounced off Link's helmet into left center field.  Link popped up on the slide and continued to third -- and then home with what proved to be the winning run.  Andy Davis, 3-1, kept the Tommies at bay, allowing seven hits, no walks and two strikeouts.  UST's Kris Edwards also went the distance, giving up nine hits, no walks and six K's.  Saint Scholastica, 37-6 overall and 2-1 in the regional, will play at 12:00 Saturday.
