NCAA Whitewater Regional Game Five ... Thursday 1:00
3-2 seems to be the score of choice in the Whitewater Regional of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament, with the College of Saint Scholastica defeating UW-Stevens Point in the 1:00 game Thursday at Prucha Field at Jim Miller Stadium in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Saint Scholastica, 36-6, lost to Hamline 3-2 in thirteen innings Wednesday, and Point beat Aurora 3-2 in ten innings Wednesday. Four of the first five games in the Whitewater Regional have been 3-2 scores. Justin Jirschele's sacrifice fly in the top of the first put UW-SP in front, but a failed pickoff attempt in the bottom of the first contributed to a 2-1 Scholastica lead. Tom Juberian greeted a Point reliever with a RBI single with one out in the seventh to put the Saints up 3-1, and the insurance proved valuable as the Pointers came back with a run in the ninth. Kyle Jensen, 4-2, picked up the win and Jake Nystrom earned his fifth save of the season. UW-SP centerfielder Cody Koback and catcher Jordan Rennicke had three hits apiece to all hitters as the Pointers collected eleven hits. Centerfielder Joe Link had two of the Saints' seven hits. Scholastica, 36-6 overall and 1-1 in the regional, will face Saint Thomas at 1:00 Friday. Stevens Point, 33-9, will play at 10:00 Friday.
