It took extra innings for top seed UW-Stevens Point to defeat Aurora University 3-2 in game one of the Whitewater Regional of the NCAA III Baseball Championship Tournament at Prucha Field at Miller Stadium in Whitewater, Wisconsin Wednesday. UW-SP's Jared Surman led off the bottom of the tenth with a double. Travis Tuschen went in as a pinch runner, and Tuschen moved to third on an Eric Fritz single. With Steve Considine at the plate, Fritz stole second. Considine pushed a bunt down the first base line that the Aurora first baseman tried to field and flip with his glove, but Tuschen slid in ahead of the tag with the winning run. Gary Gajewski's two run single in the second gave Aurora the lead and the Pointers tied the game with a pair of runs on four hits in the fifth. UW-SP senior righthander Scott Williams raised his record to 11-2 with a complete game six-hitter. Williams walked two and struck out twelve. Aurora sophomore righty Drew Gay, 7-3, yielded eight hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four. The Pointers, 33-8, will play at 1:00 Thursday and Aurora, 30-13, will play at 10:00 Thursday in the double elimination tournament.
