UNION, N.J. — UW-Whitewater bounced back at the Kean University Invitational with an impressive pair of wins Saturday, starting with a 3-1 victory over Cortland at Harwood Arena. The Warhawks dropped the first set but rebounded to win the next three, including a nail-biting 26-24 fourth set after trailing 23-21.
Gaby DiMotto (New Berlin, Wis./West) was stellar in the match against Cortland, finishing with 16 kills while hitting .424 and adding three blocks.
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) contributed significantly with 36 assists, eight kills on 16 attacks, and one service ace. Defensively,
Natalie Lawton (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) collected 33 digs, while
Abbie Dix (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) tallied 11 kills and five blocks.
In their second match of the day, UW-Whitewater continued their strong performance by defeating Kean 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-23). The Warhawks dominated the match with 31 kills, nine aces, and nine blocks, while holding Kean to a .000 hitting percentage.
Penny Schell (Cross Plains, Wis./St. Ambrose Academy) led the charge against Kean, tallying nine kills at an impressive .421 hitting percentage and adding one service ace. Krzus had another solid performance with 19 assists, six kills, five digs, and three total blocks. Dix also made her presence felt with five total blocks, including two solo blocks, and four kills. Defensively, Lawton collected 15 digs and five assists.
