WHITEWATER, Wis. — UW-Whitewater defeated St. Norbert 3-0 on Tuesday. The Warhawks hit .307 with 47 kills while holding SNC to 29 kills and a .105 percentage.
The Warhawks answered a 16-12 deficit in the first set by winning seven of the next eight rallies, moving ahead 19-17 after
Natalie Lawton's (Elmhurst, Ill./IC Catholic Prep) service stretch helped pull the set even.
Gaby DiMotto (New Berlin, Wis./West) added a kill and later an ace during the closing push, with
Emily Lego (Rock Falls, Ill./Rock Falls) and
Amanda Hillmann (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) also contributing late points. The Warhawks finished the set 25-20.
UW-Whitewater created separation early in the second set securing nine of the first ten points.
Natalie Powers (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) served four straight points during that stretch, with
Aubrie Krzus (Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville South) adding a kill and the Green Knights committing two attack errors. The Warhawks kept the margin intact from there, closing the set at 25-11 on Krzus kill.
The third set went down to the wire. With the score tied 23-23,
Mackenzie Hartman (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) hammered down a kill to force match point. Powers delivered with another ace for the 25-23 win.
DiMotto led the Warhawks with 17 kills - matching her career high - while hitting .519 and adding 10 digs. Krzus recorded a team-high 35 assists, adding eight digs, five kills and two blocks. Hartman registered 11 kills and two blocks.
UWW returns to Russell Arena Friday for a top-25 WIAC matchup. The #25 Warhawks will host #3 UW-Eau Claire at 7 PM.
