Warhawk Baseball Well Represented on All-WIAC Team, Coach Vodenlich Named Coach of the Year for Third Year Straight

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team was well represented on the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference list. The Warhawks had nine All-WIAC first-team selections, two honorable mentions, and were represented on the All-Sportsmanship team by third baseman Danny Hopper (Palatine, Ill./Palatine)

The All-Conference team was selected and voted on by the Conference Coaches based on stats from conference games only*. 

In addition to the player recognitions, Head Coach John Vodenlich earned his third consecutive, and 13th WIAC Coach of the Year recognition. Coach Vodenlich reached win number 800 at the helm of the Warhawk program this year, putting together a 41-4 record which included a school-best 35-game win streak. The Warhawks went 28-0 in WIAC regular season, the first team to go undefeated in the 28-game conference schedule. 

Centerfielder Dominik McVay (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point) & left-handed pitcher Franklin Kirchner (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Conant) were the two Warhawks selected to the All-WIAC Honorable Mention team. McVay is one of the best defensive outfielders in the WIAC and was also an important part of the Warhawk batting order, batting .368, the 8th-best mark, in the conference season with a .938 OPS. 

Kirchner, a freshman, was a perfect 4-0 in conference play. In his 33.1 innings of WIAC pitching, Kirchner boasted a 3.24 ERA, 8th-best in the conference. 

For the nine All-WIAC first-team selections, the Warhawks had seven position players, three pitchers, and one two-way player with Jackson Koenig (Blaine, Minn./Blaine).

Koenig pitched and hit for the Warhawks this season, one of the top players in both categories. Koenig had the 5th-best ERA in the WIAC with a 2.58 in conference play. Koenig went 6-0 on the season from the mound. From the plate, Koenig hit .267 from the plate with a .777 OPS. 

Spending time as the Warhawks' designated hitter & left fielder, Evan Olson (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) was one of the top bats in the conference, hitting .371 from the plate with the second-highest OPS in the conference at 1.166.

First baseman Leyten Bowers (Mineral Point, Wis./Mineral Point) was selected to the All-WIAC First team for the second time in his career, earning All-Conference last year at UW-Stout. This year at UW-Whitewater, Bowers batted .337 with a 1.101 OPS. Bowers batted in 25 batters in conference play. 

Earning his third recognition & second first-team honor, Aaron Holland (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) caught in 26 out of the 28 conference games. Holland caught 50% of opponent steal attempts, throwing out 12 while only allowing 12 stolen bases. At the dish, Holland batted .297 with a 1.008, hitting 8 doubles and 7 homers. 

Andy Thies (Tallahassee, Fla./Lawton Chiles), the Warhawks' top power-hitter this season, batted .305 at the plate in the 2026 season. Thies tallied the second-most home runs in the conference season at 10. Thies was named First Team in 2024 and was an honorable mention in 2025. Thies had the second most RBIs on the team with 31 RBIs. 

Leading the conference season, shortstop Jackson Spring (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) batted a conference-best .415 with a 1.166 OPS. An all-around hitter, Spring tallied four doubles, four triples, and three home runs. Spring batted in a team-high 35 RBIs. 

On the mound, the Warhawks had three pitchers on the All-WIAC First Team. The Warhawk pitching staff boasted on of the top marks in the nation, with the 7th best ERA & 7th best WHIP in all of Division III. 

With the best ERA at 0.97 in conference games, Ben Lee (Amherst, Wis./Amherst) went 5-0 in conference games with 37.0 innings pitched. 

Following Lee, Gradin Taschner (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) had a second-best ERA in the conference with a 1.27 ERA in WIAC games. Taschner went 4-0 with four saves in his appearances. 

Sam Steuber (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) pitched the most innings for the Warhawks in their conference season. Steuber had a 2.80 ERA, 6th-best in the conference. Steuber boasted a 7-0 record with 45.0 innings pitched. 

The Warhawks open up the NCAA Division III Tournament, hosting the regional round. UWW will face Macalester on Friday, May 15th at 11 AM.
